Ready for a close up

Check out my latest project . . . I worked with Josh Gillick of Artist Film to create this video bio of my life and work. I got to work with some of my friends from way back when in Detroit, Jason and Chris Kuehn – they wrote a song just for the film; it’s great!

Everyone came to the cabin for filming and it was a blast. It’s amazing how you can reconnect with old friends again as if you had just seen them yesterday. Am I ready to leave the easel for a life in front of the camera? You decide . . . (watch the film)

There’s No Place Like Home

The Bacchus Frog was not the only toast I got to make at the recent Vinings Gallery show in Atlanta. Since Atlanta’s my home base and home to many of my collectors, I got to hang with just about EVERYBODY in town who loves art, wine, and all combinations thereof.

Gary Handler at Vinings Gallery did another bang-up job this year, especially since my show was the premiere of the gallery’s newly expanded and renovated space. The gallery looked great, Gary, and so did everyone who came to see me over that weekend. Check out pictures from the event and add a post if you came to the show!

St. Augustine — What a show!

It’s good to be back in the studio after traveling to Detroit for Thanksgiving. Not only can I get back to work, it’s about 60 degrees warmer in Atlanta! It was great getting to spend some family time, especially after a whirlwind fall of traveling to shows and events.

Just before Thanksgiving, I was in St. Augustine for a series of shows put on by the great staff of Cutter & Cutter Fine Art. They’re a family-owned operation that has several galleries in St. Augustine, and they put on a fantastic show. We got to hang with an amazing group of collectors.

This is a photo of John and Cathy Hartford with Rob, Vanessa and myself. They treated us to an evening on their yacht, the Gandy Dancer. If you’ve never been to St. Augustine, it is certainly worth a trip. I can vouch for the galleries, (click here to see photos from the show) but you’ll have to check out the wining and dining for yourself.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (ok, it was dinner)

We followed one magical night with another, this one a dinner hosted by Tiffany & Co. in Atlanta. Tom Carroll of Tiffany’s graciously hosted Vanessa, myself, and several of our friends for an evening of fine wine by Ironhorse Vineyards, great food by Aria in Atlanta, and some of the most spectacular jewelry I have ever seen.

Trust me, I was tempted to start my Chrismas shopping early. Melvyn Kirtley of Tiffany’s was on hand to share his experiences as the gemologist who discovered Tanzanite — it’s a gorgeous deep blue stone that just happens to look great on Vanessa! (You can see for yourself in these photos.) Joy Sterling of Ironhorse couldn’t have been more fun and Gerry Klaskala of Aria prepared a fabulous meal.

Thank you to everyone who made the evening so special — it was truly a night to remember.

Wow, what a night. . .

Tyler Florence (you might know him as host of Food Network’s Food 911) joined us at The Cabin to prepare dinner for a group of my friends hosted by Pam & Dave Dilbeck of Alpharetta to benefit the charity, Common Threads. Tyler shared the culinary spotlight with one.midtown kitchen’s Richard Blais, and honestly, the food was amazing, some of the best that I ever had. Oysters with nitrogen-frozen salmon pearls, anyone?

The wine was spectacular too, but of course, nothing outshone the company. Tyler’s charm won the hearts of the ladies and his cooking won the appetites of their husbands . . . the good times carried on into the wee hours. All it takes is a little food, a little wine, and a few people ready to have fun! (Though a celebrity chef never hurts.)

Cheers to your own good times!

Welcome to my Blog

I have finally surrendered to the 21st century and all that comes with it — the internet, email, and finally, a web log, better known as a blog. I hope it will be a great way to stay in touch with you, my collectors and fans.

I’ll be able to let everyone know what I’m up to — where I’m going, where I’ve been, what’s on the easel, what’s in my glass, and anything else that I think is worth sharing. I hope that you will also use it as a forum to stay in touch with me — let me know about the Arvid moments in your lives and what’s exciting in the wide worlds of wine and art.

Pour yourself a glass of wine and stay tuned for updates . . .

Cheers!
